The basics

What Mercado Livre asks of your product photos

Mercado Livre is strict about the first photo of a listing, the foto de capa that buyers see in search. Its seller help asks for a completely white background created digitally with a photo editor, the product centered and filling about 95% of a square image, and nothing added on top: no logo, no text, no border, no QR code, no contact details and no watermark. Angles, context and packaging belong from the second photo onward. In some Moda and Casa e Móveis categories, a background in context is allowed on the cover too.

Size matters as well. Mercado Livre recommends 1,200 x 1,200 pixels so buyers can zoom, accepts JPG, JPEG and PNG files up to 10 MB, keeps images at no more than 1,920 x 1,920 and needs at least 500 pixels. Covers that miss the rules are moderated and lose exposure in the listings, and the platform’s image diagnostics look for four problems: a background that is not white, a size under the minimum, text or logos, and watermarks. Last checked October 2026; rules can differ by category, so check yours when you list.

Mage handles each part of that job. You keep your own product photo, which Mercado Livre requires you to own or have permission to use, and replace everything behind it with pure white. Then you generate the rest of the gallery: the product on a São Paulo kitchen counter, in a beach bag in Florianópolis, open in its box, seen from the side. Image Enhancer rescues small or old photos, and a short product video comes from the same images.

A little more possibility

Why Mercado Livre sellers make their photos on Mage

  • A white cover from your photo

Attach your own photo, ask for a completely white background, and the product stays as you shot it.

  • Big in search, clear of the edges

Ask for the product centered at about 95% of the square, so it reads large in results without touching the borders.

  • Context from photo two

Show the product in Brazilian kitchens, balconies and beaches in the photos Mercado Livre lets you style.

  • Every angle from one photo

The Angles app renders the side, back or top of the same product for the rest of the gallery.

  • Sharp enough to zoom

Generate at 2K, or take an old photo through Image Enhancer first, so the zoom shows real detail.

  • In Portuguese, and private

Mage’s app is available in Português (Brasil), and nothing you make is public unless you post it.

From idea to creation

How do you make a Mercado Livre cover photo with AI?

It takes three steps, and it is free to start.

  1. Photograph the real product

Shoot it whole and sharp on any plain surface in daylight. Mercado Livre wants photos you own, so start from yours.

  2. Replace the background with white

Open Mango 3, attach the photo, choose 1:1, and ask for a completely white background with the product at about 95% of the frame.

  3. Check the cover against the rules

Look for a pure white corner, nothing cut off, no halo, no text. Fix an off-white patch with Inpaint or Mercado Livre’s own editor.

  4. Build the photos after it

Generate the context, detail and packaging shots, upscale if needed, and upload them with the cover first.

Tips and techniques

The foto de capa, rule by rule (last checked October 2026)

Read the cover rules as a checklist, because Mercado Livre moderates covers that miss them. Background: completely white, created digitally. Almost white is an easy miss with generated images, so open the result in any editor and check that a corner reads 255, 255, 255. Framing: square, the product centered and filling about 95% of the image, neither cut off nor touching the borders. One product: show only the item for sale, not several together; other colors and models go in variations, each with its own photos.

What to leave off: Mercado Livre’s own labels such as "Mais vendido", "Full", "MercadoLíder" or "Oferta relâmpago", which only the platform can assign; your company logo; purchase or delivery instructions; QR codes; borders; phone numbers, emails and social handles; and any watermark, even a faint one. The help page treats all of these as extra elements to avoid, so put your selling points in the title, the attributes and the description instead of on the image.

One prompt that does all of this in a single pass: "Keep the product exactly as in the photo. Replace the background with pure white, no gradient, no floor line. Center the product and scale it to fill about 95% of a square frame without touching the edges. Soft, even light, no text." Run it on Mango 3, or read the AI background changer guide for other ways to word it. If a patch of the background comes out grey, paint over just that patch with Inpaint, or use the editor Mercado Livre offers on desktop: the pencil on the photo in your listing.

  • Check a corner pixel: it should read pure white, 255, 255, 255.
  • Square frame, product at about 95%, nothing touching the edges.
  • One product per photo; colors and models go in variations.
  • No logo, text, badge, QR code, border or contact details.
  • Fashion and home sellers: check whether your category allows context on the cover.

Tips and techniques

Photos two onward: context the Brazilian way

From the second photo, Mercado Livre asks you to show the product from different angles, in context and with its packaging. This is where generated scenes pay off. A buyer understands a thermal bottle faster next to a beach chair in Ubatuba than on white, and a frying pan on a stovetop with a pot of feijão beside it reads as the real thing. Keep the settings local and believable: tiled kitchens, apartment balconies, a churrasqueira in the backyard, a home office in a São Paulo apartment.

Order the gallery the way buyers ask questions: the cover, then the product in use, then the view the cover cannot show (back, side, sole, inside), then a close-up of the material or finish, then the packaging and everything in the box. The Angles app regenerates the same product from a new camera position, so the side and back views match the cover.

For clothing, put the piece on a saved character with Outfit Swap and keep the same model across the whole store. For furniture and decor, save your best living room as a location in References and mention it by @handle, so every product appears in the same home.

Tips and techniques

Black Friday, Dia das Mães and the rest of the calendar

Black Friday in November is one of the busiest weeks of the Brazilian online year, and the gallery should be ready before the traffic arrives, not during it. Refresh the photos after the cover with seasonal scenes: a gift table for Natal, flowers and breakfast for Dia das Mães in May, a dinner for two for Dia dos Namorados on 12 June, and summer beach days from December. The cover stays on white all year. The season goes in the scenes, never as a sticker on the cover.

Because a generated scene costs seconds, try three for each date and keep the one that fits your product. Draft them on Mango 3 Turbo, then run the keeper on Mango 3 or Guava 2 Pro at 2K.

Then turn the best scene into motion. A short clip of the product in use helps on the listing and in ads, and the AI product video generator guide shows how to make one from the same images.

Tips and techniques

Size, zoom and upscaling for Mercado Livre

Mercado Livre recommends 1,200 x 1,200 pixels and adds a zoom when an image is wider than 800 pixels. It scales anything above 1,920 x 1,920 down and never enlarges a small image. Generate covers at 2K rather than 1K, which clears the recommendation with room to spare, and let the platform scale the file to its own sizes.

If your only photo is small, such as an old phone shot or a frame from a video, run it through Image Enhancer at 2K before you use it as the reference. A sharper input gives the background edit cleaner edges, and the cover holds up when a buyer zooms into stitching, texture or a model number.

Keep each file under 10 MB: a 6K upscale is far more than Mercado Livre keeps, so save 4K and 6K for print and your own store. Working in Claude or another AI assistant? The Product Photoshoot skill shoots a set of modes from one phone photo, and the Marketplace Listing Images skill builds a main image and secondary images. That skill ships Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, eBay and Shopify rules, not Mercado Livre’s, so paste the checklist above into your request. Both are on the Mage skills page.

Prompts for a Mercado Livre gallery

Attach your product photo, then use one prompt per photo slot.

  • Cover on white

Keep the product exactly as in the photo. Pure white background, no gradient, no floor line, no halo. Center the product, filling about 95% of a square frame without touching the edges. Even softbox light, no text.

  • Kitchen in context

Keep the frying pan exactly as in the reference. On a gas stovetop in a Brazilian home kitchen with white tiles, a pot of feijão steaming beside it, late morning window light from the left, 35mm.

  • Beach day

Keep the thermal bottle exactly as in the reference. Standing in the sand next to a striped beach chair at Praia do Rosa, bright afternoon sun, the sea out of focus behind.

  • Dia das Mães gift

Keep the perfume bottle and its box exactly as in the reference. On a breakfast table with fresh flowers, pão de queijo and a cup of coffee, soft morning light, warm and homely.

  • What comes in the box

Keep the headphones and their box exactly as in the reference. Box open on a light wooden table, headphones, cable and manual laid out beside it, top-down view, even light.

Room to experiment

Editing covers by hand vs with Mage

A hand-cut background is fine for one product. For a store with dozens of listings and a new season every few weeks, describing the result is faster than tracing edges, and the scenes after the cover come from the same tool.

Editing by hand

  • Trace around the product edge by edge
  • A drawn-on shadow that looks pasted
  • A real location for every lifestyle photo
  • A reshoot for every season

Mage

  • Ask for pure white and keep the product
  • Edges and shadow made in the same pass
  • Brazilian homes, beaches and streets from a prompt
  • New seasonal scenes in minutes

Frequently asked questions

What size should Mercado Livre product photos be?
Use 1,200 x 1,200 pixels, square. Mercado Livre needs at least 500 pixels, keeps images up to 1,920 x 1,920, accepts JPG, JPEG and PNG files up to 10 MB, and shows a zoom on images wider than 800 pixels. Generating at 2K on Mage clears the recommendation.
Does Mercado Livre require a white background?
Yes, for the cover photo. Mercado Livre asks for a completely white background created digitally, except in some Moda and Casa e Móveis categories that allow a background in context. From the second photo on you can show the product in context and with its packaging.
Can I use AI to edit my Mercado Livre photos?
Yes. Mercado Livre itself asks for the white background to be made with a photo editor, and its rules are about what the photo shows: only the product for sale, in photos you own or may use, with nothing added on top. Start from your own photo so the product is the real one, and check that every detail matches what the buyer receives. As of October 2026 we found no Mercado Livre rule against AI-edited photos.
Can I put my logo, a price or "frete grátis" on the cover?
No. Mercado Livre asks you not to add logos, text, borders, QR codes, contact details, purchase or delivery instructions, watermarks, or its own labels such as "Full", "Mais vendido" or "Oferta relâmpago". Put that information in the title, the attributes and the description.
Why did my listing lose exposure because of its photo?
Mercado Livre moderates covers that miss its image rules, and moderated listings lose exposure until you fix them. The usual causes are a background that is not white, a photo under the minimum size, text or logos, watermarks, a product that is cut off or touches the edges, and poor light.
How many photos can a Mercado Livre listing have?
It depends on the category; check the limit when you create the listing. Fill the slots with different views: the cover on white, the product in use, the back or side, a close-up, and the packaging.
Is Mage free for Mercado Livre sellers?
Mage is free to start with a one-time 300-Gem bonus and no watermark. Unlimited Mango and Guava at 1K and 2K start on Pro at $30 a month, and a commercial license comes with every paid plan.
