The basics
What is an AI photo editor?
An AI photo editor retouches a real photograph by understanding what is in it. Instead of brushing a fix by hand, layer by layer, you tell the editor what is wrong: the light is flat, her eyes are closed, the skin looks waxy, the picture is too small to print. The model repaints only what needs to change and leaves the rest of the photo alone.
Mage puts a set of focused photo tools in one place. Relight moves the light source and changes its direction, hardness, brightness and color. Refine fixes eyes and hands in one click, or follows your own instruction. Skin Enhancer restores natural skin texture. Inpaint repaints a region you paint over. Angles shows the same scene from a new camera position. Image Enhancer upscales the finished photo to 2K, 4K or 6K.
Each tool is a single-purpose app: upload a photo, pick a setting, generate. Because they all live in one account, you can pass a photo from one to the next without exporting and re-uploading, and every result stays private to you unless you choose to share it. For edits you describe in your own words across a whole image, see the AI image editor.
A little more possibility
Why photographers and creators edit photos on Mage
Light you can move
Relight picks a new light direction, soft or hard light, brightness and color, so a flat midday shot can become a warm side-lit portrait.
One-click fixes
Refine has Fix Eyes, Fix Hands and Add Detail presets, or takes your own instruction for the one thing that came out wrong.
Skin that looks like skin
Skin Enhancer offers Realistic, Soft, Imperfect and Imperfect with Freckles modes at three strengths, at 2K or 4K.
Repaint just one area
Inpaint changes only the region you paint over, so you can remove a stray object or replace a sign without touching the face.
A new camera angle
Angles regenerates the same scene from a new elevation and orientation, handy for product shots and portraits.
Finish at up to 6K
Image Enhancer upscales a JPEG or PNG of up to 30MB to 2K, 4K or 6K with added detail, ready for print.
From idea to creation

Upscale and download
Send the keeper to Image Enhancer for 2K, 4K or 6K, then download the original file, with no watermark.
Tips and techniques
Which tool fixes which problem
Most photo problems fall into a handful of kinds, and each has its own tool. Light that is flat, harsh or coming from the wrong side is a Relight job: you choose where the light comes from, whether it is soft or hard, how bright it is and what color it carries, and the people and the scene stay in place.
Detail problems are a Refine job. Closed or mismatched eyes, an extra finger or a mangled hand, and soft areas that need sharper detail each have a preset. When the problem is something in the picture rather than something about it, such as a passer-by, a bin or a crooked sign, paint over it in Inpaint and describe what belongs there instead. To swap the whole background, follow the AI background changer guide, and for a faded family print, the photo restoration guide.
- Flat or harsh light: Relight, with soft light for faces and hard light for drama
- Closed eyes or bad hands: Refine with the Fix Eyes or Fix Hands preset
- Plastic-looking skin: Skin Enhancer in Realistic or Imperfect mode
- Something that should not be there: Inpaint, with a mask and a short prompt
- Wrong viewpoint: Angles, with a new elevation and orientation
- Too small to print: Image Enhancer, last
Tips and techniques
A retouching order that keeps quality high
Fix what is in the picture before you fix how it looks. Remove objects and repair eyes and hands first, because those edits repaint pixels, and anything you do afterwards builds on them. Change the light next, so the new lighting falls across the corrected picture. Treat skin after the light is settled, since lighting changes how texture reads.
Upscale last. Image Enhancer adds detail as it enlarges, so running it before other edits means each later edit works on a bigger file and can smooth away the detail you paid for. Finish at the size you need: 2K for the web and social, 4K or 6K for print and large displays.
Tips and techniques
Keeping a real photo looking real
The fastest way to make a photo look edited is to change too much at once. Make one change per pass and compare it with the original. On Skin Enhancer, start at Low strength and move up only if the texture still looks smoothed. On Refine, a short, specific instruction ("open his eyes naturally") beats a long list.
The model matters too. The editing apps start on Mango 3 Turbo, which is quick and good for most fixes. For portraits where skin, fabric and hair texture must hold up close, switch to Guava 2 Pro, which is built for photoreal work. If a result drifts, run the same edit on another model and keep the better one.
- One change per pass, then compare with the original
- Start Skin Enhancer at Low strength
- Keep Refine instructions short and specific
- Use Guava 2 Pro when texture must survive a close look

Manual retouching vs an AI photo editor
Manual retouching gives you total control and asks for hours and skill in return. An AI photo editor trades the brushwork for a description of the fix, and puts light, detail, texture and size in one place.
Manual retouching
- Every fix brushed by hand, layer by layer
- New light means a reshoot or hours of dodging and burning
- Upscaling is a separate tool or plugin
- A long learning curve before the first good result
Mage
- Describe the fix or pick a preset
- Relight with direction, hardness, brightness and color
- Upscale to 6K in the same account
- Private by default, nothing to install
Follow your imagination
What can you do with an AI photo editor?
Portraits and profile photos
Fix a blink, soften harsh light and restore skin texture on the one shot where the expression was right.
Product and listing photos
Relight a product, see it from another angle, remove clutter from the table and upscale for a sharp listing.
Travel photos
Take a stranger out of the frame and give a grey afternoon the warm light it deserved.
Creator content
Polish a thumbnail or a feed post in minutes, then reuse the look on the next one.
Start small. Dream big.
