How to get a character that holds up

Start with the reference, because every later image copies it. One clear portrait works best: the face fully visible and evenly lit, no sunglasses or hair across the eyes, and a neutral expression you can push in either direction later. A character saved from a blurry crop stays blurry in every scene.

Then test before you build a series on it. Generate the character in three very different shots, a tight close-up, a full-length outfit change and a new location, and check the face in each. If one drifts, the reference is usually the problem rather than the prompt, so replace it before you make fifty more images.
