The basics

Can Claude generate images?

Not on its own. Claude can read an image you share with it, but it doesn't generate photos or illustrations. Connectors fix that: they use the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to give Claude tools it doesn't have, and the Mage connector adds image, video and audio generation.

Once Mage is connected, you ask for an image in plain words. Claude picks a model, which is Mango 3, Mage's flagship image model, unless you name another. It quotes the Gems needed, starts the generation on your Mage account and shows you the result in the chat. Video runs on Cherry 2 Pro and audio on Seed Audio by default, and 28 models are available by name.

It works in Claude on the web, the desktop app, the mobile apps and Cowork, and in Claude Code from your terminal. Connecting is free, and each generation is paid in Gems from your Mage account.

How do you generate images in Claude?

It takes three steps, and it is free to start.

  1. Open the connector link

    Open Add Mage to Claude from Mage's Claude page. Claude's Connectors page opens with Mage and the server URL filled in. Select Add.

  2. Sign in & approve

    Sign in to your Mage account, check that the page names Claude, and select Connect to return to the chat.

  3. Turn Mage on & ask

    In any chat, open the + menu, turn on Mage under Connectors, and describe the image you want.

Can Claude generate images?
Claude does not generate images on its own, but with the Mage connector it can. Claude uses Mango 3 unless you name another model, quotes the Gems needed, starts the generation on your Mage account and shows you the result in the chat.
Can Claude generate videos?
Not on its own, but it can with the Mage connector. Video runs on Cherry 2 Pro by default, or on any other Mage video model you name, and audio runs on Seed Audio.
What is the best Claude connector for image generation?
Look for model choice and a price you can see before you pay. Mage gives Claude 28 models on one account, defaults to Mango 3, and quotes each generation in Gems before it runs.
Which Claude plans support the Mage connector?
Custom connectors work on Claude Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. The Free plan allows one custom connector, and on Team and Enterprise an owner or admin adds Mage first.
Does my Mage membership make it unlimited in Claude?
No. Generations started from Claude are always paid in Gems. Your plan's monthly Gems count toward them, and unlimited generation applies in the Mage app.
Do I need an API key?
No. Claude connects by signing in to your Mage account. An API key is optional, for headless setups such as CI.
Does it work in Claude Code?
Yes. Add the Mage server with one command and sign in from /mcp. Claude Code can also upload files from your computer to use as inputs.
Is it safe to connect my Mage account?
Mage shows the app's name and site before anything is shared, and you approve each connection. You can disconnect any app from Mage's MCP page, under Connected apps.
