How to use the Inpaint skill

Say what to change
Name the thing to change and what should be there instead, or share a mask of your own.
Check the mask
The skill paints the region red, looks at it, and tells you what it masked so you can correct it.
Get the edit
Mango 3 changes only the red area. If the join shows, the skill widens the mask and runs again.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the same as the Inpaint app?

Yes. The skill sends the Inpaint app’s own prompt with the same models and defaults, so your agent gets the app’s results from a chat, and can run it on many images in one go.

Which agents can run it?

Agents that run commands and see images, like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor, because the mask is painted with a short script. Without them, the skill offers Refine with the area named in words.

Can it change the whole composition?

No. Inpaint edits one region. For a new composition or angle, generate a new image or use the Angles skill.

Can I use a real person’s face?

Only with that person’s permission, and never to deceive, harass, or sexualize anyone. Harmful deepfakes are forbidden on Mage, and the skill states the rule with the price before it runs.

How much does it cost?

The skill is free and open source. Each generation it starts is paid in Gems from your Mage account at the model’s listed price, and your assistant quotes the total before it creates anything.
