The basics

What is a text to image generator?

A text to image generator turns a written description into a picture. You type what you want to see, the subject, the setting, the light and the style, and an image model paints it from scratch. There is no photo to upload and no drawing skill involved: the words are the whole input, and a better description gets you a better picture.

Mage is a text to image generator with a choice of models rather than one house style. Mango 3, the flagship, follows exact instructions and keeps a character consistent across a set. Nano Banana 2.1 and GPT Image 2.5 Flare render readable text for posters and graphics. Flux 2 handles long, detailed prompts, and Z-Image is the fastest image model on Mage. You switch between them in the same prompt box.

Everything you make is private by default, nothing carries a watermark, and you can start free with a one-time sign-up bonus of 300 Gems. When you want to keep going without counting, the paid plans make generation unlimited on the models they cover.

A little more possibility

Why turn text into images on Mage

  • Models that follow the prompt

Mango 3 and GPT Image 2.5 Flare are built for exact instructions: counts, positions, colors and who stands where.

  • Readable text in the picture

Nano Banana 2.1 and GPT Image 2.5 Flare can put a title, a sign or a caption in the image, spelled the way you wrote it.

  • Any shape you need

Pick a ratio before you generate, from 21:9 cinema frames to 9:16 phone screens, so the composition is built for where it goes.

  • Private by default

Your prompts and pictures stay in your account. Posting to Mage Social is a choice you make one image at a time.

  • Unlimited plans

Unlimited generation starts on Basic at $10 a month, and Mango joins the unlimited list on Pro.

  • Your characters, by name

Save a character once and write its @handle in any prompt to put the same face in a brand new scene.

From idea to creation

How do you turn text into an image?

It takes three steps, and it is free to start.

  1. Open the generator

Use the button on this page to open Mage in your browser. There is nothing to install, and a free account saves your work.

  2. Write the prompt

Describe the subject first, then the setting, the light and the style. Choose a ratio and a resolution if the picture has a destination.

  3. Pick a model

Choose Mango 3 in the model menu for most jobs, or switch to Nano Banana 2.1 or GPT Image 2.5 Flare when the image needs words in it.

  4. Generate and refine

Run it, look at the result, and change one thing at a time. Keep the best version, upscale it, or turn it into a video.

Tips and techniques

How to write a prompt that works

Image models read a prompt roughly in order of importance, so lead with the thing that matters most. A useful pattern is subject, action, setting, light, style: "a red fox curled asleep on a mossy log, early morning fog, soft side light, watercolor". Each part answers a question the model would otherwise guess at, and the guesses are where a picture drifts away from what you meant.

Be concrete about what you can picture. "A cozy cafe" leaves the model to invent everything; "a narrow cafe with green tiles, steam rising off two cups, rain on the window, late afternoon" gives it a scene. Name a lens or a film stock for photographic looks, and a medium such as gouache, ink, oil or 3D render for illustrated ones.

When a result is close but not right, change one part of the prompt and run it again instead of rewriting the whole thing. If only one area is wrong, fix it in place with the AI image editor, which repaints just the region you mask.

  • Put the subject in the first few words.
  • Describe the light and the time of day: they change the mood more than any adjective.
  • Put quotation marks around any words you want printed in the image.
  • Choose the aspect ratio before you generate; cropping later loses the composition.
  • Save a good result as a character when you want the same person again.

Tips and techniques

Resolution, ratio and reference images

Resolution sets how much detail the model renders. Mango 3 works at 1K or 2K, Mango 3S reaches 3K, and Mango 2 and Nano Banana 2.1 go up to 4K. For a phone wallpaper or a print, start at the highest your model allows; for quick drafts, 1K is faster and plenty to judge a composition.

Text to image does not have to be text only. Most current models on Mage also take reference images alongside the prompt: up to 10 on Mango 3, 14 on Nano Banana 2.1 and 15 on GPT Image 2.5 Flare. A reference can pin down a product, an outfit, a color palette or a face, while the prompt describes the new scene around it.

If you already have a picture you like and want more in the same spirit, start from the AI image to image generator instead. And when a still deserves motion, the same picture can become the first frame of a clip in the AI image to video generator.

The right model for the job

Which model should you use for text to image?

Every model reads the same prompt box. These four cover most jobs.

  • Mango 3

Mage's flagship and the best default. It follows exact instructions, combines up to 10 reference images into one scene, and keeps a saved character's face the same across a set. It stops at 2K.

  • Nano Banana 2.1

Google's model, strong on graphics with readable text and on edits from up to 14 references, at up to 4K. Google's safety filter applies to it.

  • GPT Image 2.5 Flare

OpenAI's model for precise prompt adherence and text in the image: posters, memes, comics and diagrams. OpenAI's safety filter applies, and higher quality levels cost more.

  • Flux 2

An open-weights model that handles long, detailed prompts and takes up to three reference images. It is on the Basic plan's unlimited list, which makes it a good high-volume drafting model.

Try these prompts

Text to image prompts to try

Paste one into the prompt box, then swap the subject to make it yours.

  • A moody product still

A ceramic coffee cup on a dark walnut table, steam curling up, a single window of light from the left, shallow depth of field, 50mm photo

  • A storybook illustration

A tiny mouse sailing a walnut-shell boat across a puddle at sunset, gouache illustration, warm palette, soft paper texture

  • A city at night

A rain-soaked street market in Taipei at night, neon reflections in puddles, people with umbrellas, cinematic wide shot, 21:9

  • A poster with a title

A retro travel poster of a lighthouse on a cliff, bold flat shapes, the words "NORTH CAPE" in large letters across the top

Room to experiment

Text to image on Mage vs single-model tools

Many text to image tools are built around one model, so every picture comes out in roughly the same style and every limit of that model is yours too. Mage gives you a menu of models behind one prompt, so you can pick the one that suits the job.

Mainstream tools

  • One model and one house style
  • Words in the image often come out garbled
  • Every retry spends another credit
  • A short list of sizes and shapes

Mage

  • Mango 3, Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image 2.5 Flare, Flux 2 and more
  • Models built to render readable text
  • Unlimited generation on paid plans
  • Private by default, with no watermark

Follow your imagination

What people make with text to image

  • Social posts and blog art

Make a header image that fits the post exactly, in the ratio the platform wants, instead of hunting for a stock photo that almost works.

  • Concepts and mood boards

Sketch ten directions for a room, a product or a scene in minutes, then pick the one worth developing.

  • Characters and stories

Design a character from a description, save them, and put them in new scenes for a comic, a book or a series.

  • Prints and wallpapers

Generate at up to 4K on the models that reach it, then enlarge further with the Image Enhancer.

Start small. Dream big.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI text to image generator?
It depends on the picture. For most prompts, Mango 3 is the strongest default on Mage: it follows exact instructions and keeps characters consistent. For images with words in them, Nano Banana 2.1 and GPT Image 2.5 Flare are the better picks, and for photoreal people and products, Guava 2 Pro. Mage lets you try all of them from one prompt box, so you can compare on your own prompt instead of trusting a ranking.
Can I turn text into images for free?
Yes. A free account comes with a one-time 300-Gem sign-up bonus, and Gems run every model on Mage. Free members can use the generation options that cost Gems; unlimited generation starts on Basic at $10 a month.
Can the image include text?
Yes, on the models built for it. Nano Banana 2.1 and GPT Image 2.5 Flare render readable titles, signs and captions; put the exact words in quotation marks. Mango 3 Turbo is also strong on layouts and text. Older open models are more likely to misspell words.
What resolution are the images?
It depends on the model: Mango 3 renders at 1K or 2K, Mango 3S at up to 3K, and Mango 2 and Nano Banana 2.1 at up to 4K. You can enlarge any image further with the Image Enhancer, which outputs 2K, 4K or 6K.
Can I get the same character in several images?
Yes. Save a character from one portrait, then write its @handle in a prompt. Mango 3, Nano Banana 2.1, GPT Image, Guava and Grok Image all accept saved characters, so the same face carries from scene to scene.
Are my images private?
Yes. Every creation is private by default and stays in your account. Nothing appears on Mage Social or anywhere public unless you post it yourself.
Can I use the images commercially?
A commercial license comes with every paid plan, and nothing you make carries a watermark, so images can go straight into a product, a post or a client project.
